Helicopter disappointment, but great images from Skateboard Park

Today I shot a few stand-alone images for the Saturday Special Section of Fort McMurray Today, well I didn’t really plan it but it did work out that way.  I went with Lindsey to work today, although normally I would just drop her off and head back, well today was suppose to be different.  I was given an assignment from the paper to take pictures for National Forest Week and I was really excited because I was suppose to get a helicopter ride to take the images.  Unfortunately the helicopter ride fell through because the pilot had some other passengers he had to take up and couldn’t take me up until later tonight, when I was busy waiting for my interview with Apple, so needless to say our schedules didn’t work out.

Well it wasn’t too bad though, because I did manage to sneak out for an hour  to go to the local skateboard park to take some pictures of skateboarders and BMXers, well maybe it shouldn’t be plural, because when I got there it was before school was out for the day and  there was only one person there, but another showed up sooner after and more people did show up while I was leaving.

So I got to take pictures of Todd Sparkes, a skateboarder that works at Syncrude  and Mike, a BMX rider, (didn’t get his last name) who works at Albian Sands.   They were both great to work with and did some great moves on their respective tools.  I was only there for about 30 minutes but I got some great stuff and I am very appreciative of both Todd and Mike for their willingness to have pictures taken.

Afterwards I got back to the office, uploaded the images and waited for my third interview with Apple.  The interview went quite well and I am feeling fairly optimistic, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed.   I did have a good time and I’m glad the interview went well, but I do wish I was able to get the images I needed for National Forest Week.

P.S.  I’m not a skateboard expert, or anywhere near that designation, so please be patient with my caption descriptions, because they were tough to write.
